But Wurtsmith was selected for closure under the 1991 Base Realignment and Closure decision and was officially closed on June 30, 1993. Most of the acreage of the former base has been transferred for reuse with many businesses prospering and growing. Our community found it necessary to reinvent and reinvigorate a business community to replace population, opportunity, and identity.
